Next-Generation HTC Phones Boast Android 2.1, Improved HTC Sense
By Sindre Lia, 16 February 2010
The brand new HTC Desire and HTC Legend boast Android 2.1, improved HTC Sense user interface and new phone designs.
HTC leaked its 1H 2010 roadmap for Europe late last year, meaning that you've likely heard about the new HTC Desire (Bravo) and HTC Legend for months. There's nothing like an official unveiling though, and these new HTC phones will provide the latest and greatest smartphone technology on the market in sleek designs:
Improved HTC Sense
The HTC Desire and HTC Legend will get a new version of HTC Sense running atop Android 2.1, which will also be pushed through an over-the-air upgrade to the HTC Hero in Europe and Asia. The new version provides a new Web app called HTC Friend Stream that seamlessly aggregates all of your social communication including Facebook, Twitter and Flickr into one organized flow of updates. People can also be organized into specific social circles, such as groups of friends, colleagues or any other way that makes sense.
The new HTC Sense experience also introduces broad improvements to applications including the browser, email client and others. In addition, the new version of HTC Sense includes a new newsreader app, as well as a new seven-screen "Leap" thumbnail view for quick and easy access to specific screens.
HTC Desire is Adobe Flash 10.1 ready
The HTC Desire is the new star in HTC's Android fleet, boosting performance to a Nexus One level with the incorporation of a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a clock speed of 1GHz as well as 3D graphics and video hardware acceleration. The latter means that HTC Desire owners will be able to take advantage of new graphics-intensive features that Android will provide down the road. It'll also sport a 3.7-inch AMOLED WVGA touchscreen display and an optical joystick. The HTC Desire is also Adobe Flash 10.1 ready. Check out more HTC Desire specifications.
The HTC Desire will be available throughout Europe and Asia in early Q2 2010. It'll be available exclusively through Telstra in Australia.
HTC Legend flirts with the masses with its unibody design
Designed by professionals to attract the style-conscious among us, the HTC Legend will present the new and improved HTC Sense in a body that has never looked better. It simply represents the beginning of the new HTC, where brand value and identity will matter just as much as the technology inside. Apple, watch out!
The HTC Legend sports a 3.2-inch AMOLED HVGA touchscreen display. The traditional trackball has also been replaced with an optical joystick, surrounded by a narrow button to improve usability without interrupting its unique unibody design. Check out more HTC Legend specifications.
The HTC Legend will be available in Europe through Vodafone and in the direct channel beginning in April. It will roll out to other parts of the world including Asia in early Q2. HTC says there are no plans to make the HTC Legend and HTC Desire available in the U.S. though.
