AT&T now allows SlingPlayer users to stream video content via its 3G network, and will soon release general developer guidelines for media streaming apps.
AT&T has been testing Sling Media's SlingPlayer app on its 3G network since late last year, and it can now be used both on AT&T's 3G and Wi-Fi hotspot networks. The SlingPlayer got its breakthrough on Windows Mobile devices, but is naturally now a popular app on Apple's iPhone as well.
According to AT&T's CEO, Ralph de la Vega, the carrier will also work with other developers to provide media content apps that are optimized for AT&T's 3G network. AT&T will provide developers with wireless network optimization requirements for video and other applications by the end of the first quarter via its Developer Program website.
