The Motorola Devour will make its debut on Verizon Wireless this spring, boasting Motorola's social networking interface, Motoblur.
Motorola has promised to release an armada of Android smartphones in 2010. In March, Verizon Wireless subscribers will finally get a taste of Motorola's Motoblur interface, when the carrier is set to release the brand new Motorola Devour. Unlike the Motorola Droid that is currently powered by Android 2.0, the Devour's Motoblur interface is running atop Android 1.6. Considering the fact that Motoblur brings features of its own to the table, the OS differences aren't significant if social network integration is the name of the game for you.
Active home screen brings Facebook to the surface
The key feature in the Motorola Devour is Motoblur's Happenings, Status and Messaging widgets that enable an active home screen tailored for social networking addicts. In stead of opening separate apps or mobile pages, you'll be able to perform and keep track of the most common social networking activities instantly. The Motoblur interface supports Facebook, MySpace and Twitter Direct Messaging, while photos can be shared to MySpace, Photobucket, Picasa and Facebook. The built-in phonebook also synchronizes contacts and connected social networks via Motoblur.
Needless to say, if you've been waiting for the Verizon Wireless counterpart to the Motorola Cliq on T-Mobile, the Devour should be the phone of your choice. However, if high-end smartphone functionality such as 3D-enabled content, advanced games or next-generation Google Maps with Navigation is what you're looking for, the Motorola Droid should still be considered as the preferred choice on this network. That said, the Motorola Devour will ship with the Adobe Flash Lite 3 plug-in for the Android browser, enabling streaming of for instance YouTube videos without using a separate application.
Motorola Devour Specifications
The Motorola Devour sports a 3.1-inch capacitive screen with a HVGA resolution (320 by 480 pixels), QWERTY thumbboard, 3.5mm audio jack and will ship with an 8GB microSD card. It'll also offer dual microphone noise cancellation, and Motorola promises a talk time of up to 6 hours. When it comes to connectivity, the Devour offers Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR as well as a microUSB port. The phone also sports a 3-megapixel camera with geotagging, and should be able to synchronize images with DLNA equipped devices. Check out more specifications here.
