Nokia N900 owners can now download the final release of Firefox Mobile, offering a range of browsing features.
Amidst the Apple iPad buzz, a key happening in the mobile world took place as far as mobile browsing technology is concerned: Mozilla has released Firefox Mobile for Maemo 5, better known as the OS powering the Nokia N900.
Firefox Mobile will also be available for Android and Windows Mobile in the future, and would obviously have been a welcome addition to the Apple iPad if Steve Jobs had allowed it to happen.
The key feature of Firefox Mobile is the ability to customize your Firefox by adding small pieces of functionality, or so-called add-ons. Firefox is the first mobile Web browser to support add-ons, and more than 40 Firefox add-ons are already available for mobile.
Will Mozilla's Firefox Mobile become a serious headache for other mobile browsers on advanced platforms? Yes, we think so. Especially future Apple iPad competitors could use Firefox Mobile as a powerful incentive to choose alternative 3G tablet solutions.
