Four new netbooks from Samsung feature improved battery life with the Intel Atom N450 processor.
Samsung announced four new netbook computers, all of which will use the recently announced Intel Atom N450 processor. The new Intel Atom N450 doesn't promise a substantial performance boost, but it does operate with less power, and Samsung is making longer battery life a focus of their new netbook family. All four new netbooks, including the Samsung N210, N220, N150 and the durable Samsung NB30, will also feature improved, energy efficient LED displays. The 10.1-inch screen will incorporate a Digital LiveCam, as well.
Samsung N210 and N220 top the charts
The Samsung N210 and Samsung N220 will benefit the most from Samsung's battery life initiative. Both netbooks are rated by Samsung for 12 hours of battery life. Besides the long battery life, these two netbooks also get some interesting features. Both will feature an "Instant On" mode using the Phoenix HyperSpace tool. Basically, the netbooks will boot into a stripped down OS with only a Web browser available, so you can browse the Web for simple tasks without having to boot into a full build of Windows. These two netbooks will also use a fancy crystal pattern design on their mark resistant plastic shells.
The Samsung N210 and Samsung N220 also get some interesting business features. The netbooks will ship with Phoenix Failsafe system on board. The Phoenix Failsafe tracks your PC when it's stolen. Once it's been found, you can encrypt, manage, retrieve or even erase your data. To access primary system from your new netbook, the Samsung N210 and N220 will also come with AnyPC remote PC access.
Samsung NB30 is durable, to a point
If you're looking for a more durable netbook, the Samsung NB30 has some unique features to help more clumsy netbook buyers keep their prize safe. Most interesting, the Samsung NB30 features a water-tight seal around the system. You can spill water on it, but not too much water, and you better clean it off fast. To be specific, Samsung's claims their tests show the Samsung NB30 will resist water damage from up to 50 cc of water, less than a quarter cup of liquid, if the water is removed within 10 seconds. That's not much, so don't expect to go swimming with this water resistant little guy, but it might be just enough protection to save you if the worst happens.
The Samsung NB30 also features an HDD freefall sensor. The HDD will lock itself in place to protect your data if the sensor detects the netbook is falling. Besides the durability, the Samsung NB30 will also see strong battery performance. Samsung claims you'll be surfing and spilling water on this netbook for 11 hours straight.
Besides these netbooks, Samsung also released the lower-end Samsung N150 netbook. The N150 features an 8.5 hour battery. The netbook design uses an integrated hinge, which offers smooth movement when opening and closing the lid.
All of the netbooks feature a high resolution display capable of 1024 by 768 pixels. But Samsung is also making it easier to adapt and control the screen resolution to the task at hand with an Easy Resolution Manager tool on all the new netbooks.
All four new netbooks will be available around the world, including in the American markets, early this month. Pricing has yet to be announced.
