We wondered why Gameloft wouldn't support the Motorola Droid the other day, but don't worry: The important Apple iPhone partner promises Motorola Droid users great games.

Gameloft, a world leader in publishing and development of downloadable video games, plans to launch High Definition games on next generation Android phones like the Motorola Droid and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

According to Gameloft, the arrival of this new generation of phones will allow the development of High Definition games that make the most of the technology capacity and the speed of execution offered by the new Android phones. Consumers will benefit from a top quality gaming experience, says Gonzague de Vallois, vice-president of Publishing at Gameloft.

Gameloft also continues to support the current generation of Android phones and announces the imminent arrival of titles such as Assassin's Creed. These titles will be accessible on the Android Marketplace and Gameloft internet sites and fill further strengthen our catalogue of Android games already available.

With licenses of a range of top-notch games, it's obviously great for new Motorola Droid users to know that they'll get to play the mobile games developed by one of Apple's key partners on the iPhone platform.

According to Reuters the other day, Gameloft seemed to be giving up on Android, but this latest move of Gameloft looking forward to taking advantage of the next-generation Android phones is of course important to the Android camp. Given Verizon Wireless' effort to attract potential iPhone 3GS buyers to the Motorola Droid, there's obviously also a value for this carrier to see strong Gameloft support.
