Anyone who has reviewed a certain amount of phones knows that it's impossible to come up with accurate phone scores after a while. Back in 2004, infoSync founders Sindre Lia and Jørgen Sundgot started fiddling with ways of solving that issue. They were simply fed up with their own as well as competitors shortcomings in the area. Avid infoSync readers have probably more than once scratched their heads over the years, with new scores appearing on already existing reviews.
For those who are still around, the now partly available feature quality search should hopefully make it easier to quickly find the phone that matches your needs out-of-box. Over the years, Sindre Lia has spent thousands of hours on testing and tweaking test results in order for everything to add up to the human eye. In 2007, our Editor-in-Chief Philip Berne also joined the project, which was then migrated from an overloaded Excel file to a brand new online solution.
Today, we're finally confident that our new feature quality search will yield results that make sense. Perhaps the most challenging part of this project through the years has been to get our hands on phones that would provide quality test results in more than a couple of key areas. Without the significant improvements manufacturers and carriers have been doing to their product philosophies, there would simply not have been any ground for a feature quality search of this kind today.
The new search engine includes a part of the top layer in our system, including the ability to find phones based on the overall experience in calling, messaging, camera, music, video, productivity, scheduling, tethering and navigation. Each of these categories has their own subset of parameters, which are not yet available to readers. However, we'll continue to post expert guides from time to time, where we'll offer manual comparisons of some of these parameters.
As always, we'll continue improving every aspect of the site as we go, and feel free to give us a heads-up if you see something that needs to be improved.
