We check out the new HP ProBook 4310s 13.3-inch business laptop that will be released later this summer.
HP unleashed two brand new notebook PCs at the stroke of midnight. Say hello to the HP Mini 5101 and HP ProBook 4310s, two models we had the pleasure of playing with a few weeks back. It was obvious that HP was striving for style during our meeting, for the company was even showcasing a brand new lineup of swanky laptop bags and accessories. The HP USB Port Replicator was perhaps the most peculiar of the lot with its totem pole of interfaces and adjustable swivel orientation. We were impressed with the new HP Mini 5101 (check out our hands-on) and HP ProBook 4310s, and not only from an aesthetic standpoint. Both models feature advanced processors and are designed to run Windows Vista Business, so we know HP has supplied the afterburners.
Business with style
Who says your business notebook has to be drab like the rest of Wall Street? The HP ProBook 4310s lit the runway on fire with its optional Merlot and black two-tone finish. Also available in Noir (how bourgeoisie), the laptop specialized in portability with a 13.3-inch diagonal screen and a reasonably light weight. We liked the optional fingerprint sensor and 2MP webcam, and the full QWERTY was a nice touch. The HP ProBook 4310s also gets HP's 3D Drive Guard and Wi-Fi capability, but the similarities between the Mini stop there.
QuickLook 2 allowed us to access email, calendar, task and contact information from a hibernated state, which fired up fairly quickly. The HP ProBook 4310s was put through the 95,000-hour HP Total Test Process, so we're not as concerned about durability. The laptop also used an energy-efficient power adapter with a built-in sensor that alerted the notebook when its power rating had been reached. With an optional Intel Core 2 Duo processor and preinstalled Windows Vista, the HP ProBook 4310s is definitely designed to perform, though significant hardware upgrades must be chosen in order for the more advanced versions of Vista to perform adequately.
That's why the HP ProBook 4310s has two slots that support dual channel memory and offers the following hard drive options: 320/500 GB 5400 rpm SATA HDD or 160/250/320/500 GB 7200 rpm SATA HDD. Users can also opt for the HD screen resolution and Blu-ray ROM DVD+ /-RW SuperMulti DL LightScribe Drive, as long as the hardware is configured to keep up with the byte-hungry media interfaces. Ports and terminals consist of three USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, VGA, power, Express Card/34 slot, Ethernet, SD/MMC slot, stereo mic and headphone/line out.
Price and release date
The HP ProBook 4310s will begin at $800 and is set to ship on July 20.
