Samsung will launch the Samsung Omnia Pro around the world today, featuring Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (upgradeable to WinMo 6.5), a slide-out full QWERTY thumbboard, 3.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a WVGA resolution (800 by 480 pixels), 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity and 1GB of internal memory.
This morning however, Samsung Korea issued a press release with pictures (see below) of the manufacturer's new phones to be on display at Communicasia this week. Over the weekend, UnwiredView also dug up a bunch of press images and specifications for the Samsung Omnia Pro, A.K.A the Samsung Louvre B7610.
According to UnwiredView, the Samsung Omnia Pro will offer two user interfaces similar to what some Nokia phones are offering. A dedicated key will simply switch between your professional and private life. Furthermore, the Samsung Omnia Pro will offer video playback acceleration and an 800MHz processor to go with the new multimedia powerhouse.
Video and music fans will also get DLNA support and TV out (for wireless and wired connection to Samsung HDTVs, respectively), as well as a 3.5mm audio jack. For additional memory, the Samsung Omnia Pro will get a microSD memory slot supporting up to 32GB cards. The Samsung Omnia Pro will also get HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity, microUSB, Bluetooth, GPS and a 1500 mAh battery.
When it comes to the camera found in the Samsung Omnia Pro, a 5.1-megapixel camera will offer autofocus and LED flash. There's no word on image processing yet, but we certainly hope that the Samsung Omnia Pro will offer image quality that matches the best of what Samsung has to offer.
UnwiredView suggests (or hopes) that the Samsung Omnia Pro might be released in August 2009 for a retail price below 500 EUR. The Samsung Omnia Pro is basically a response to Sony Ericsson's WinMo approach, which gives you a 3D graphics accelerator and more for approximately $800 unlocked. There's no doubt that these high-end WinMo phones will continue to be priced high without a contract. And there's a reason why you usually get the iPhone for a low price as long as you sign up for a seriously expensive contract.
