It's that time of the year again when Apple is about to release its next-gen smartphone. Should you prepare for an upgrade?

When the iPhone 3G was introduced last year, we basically expected to see the new iPhone's hardware inside. However, the iPhone 3G didn't actually offer the hardware upgrade many had hoped for. The good news is that the new iPhone does.

In other words, despite being one year late, a significantly improved iPhone will finally hit the streets this month. Some might want to check out the Palm Pre in stead, but if you upgraded to the 3G version last year, there's a good chance that you'll like what the new "Speed" version has to offer this year as well.

Additionally, AT&T Wireless recently made a change in its upgrade program for the iPhone, so now might be a good time to check if you're one of the lucky ones that is eligible for an upgrade.
