Sony Ericsson Unveils New Multimedia PhonesBy Sindre Lia, 28 May 2009
If you liked the Idou, Sony Ericsson just revealed more information and a new model name for it.

Sony Ericsson Satio Sony Ericsson today announced the Satio, a smartphone that was first introduced as the Idou earlier this year. The highlights include a 3.5-inch widescreen display, a 12.1-megapixel camera with touch focus and Xenon flash, and Symbian S60 5th Edition. Furthermore, the phone will provide Web albums with messages, a touch based media menu as well as pre-loaded Facebook and YouTube applications.

The phone will be available in two versions, one supporting European HSDPA networks and one supporting AT&T's HSDPA network. A 8GB memory card will be bundled in the sales package. There's no word on pricing, but the phone is promised to be released in early Q4 2009.

Sony Ericsson Aino Sony Ericsson also unveiled two multimedia phones that'll support AT&T's HSDPA network, the Aino touchscreen phone and the Yari gaming phone. The Aino will offer a 3-inch touchscreen with a resolution that matches Samsung's all-touch phones, and will come equipped with a remote control for Playstation 3. Furthermore, the phone sports a 8.1-megapixel camera, touchscreen media player, Facebook and YouTube applications, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Sony Ericsson Yari The Yari will be the first mobile phone with gesture gaming outside of the Japanese market. Unlike the other two new phones, the Yari will offer a standard 2.4-inch QVGA display, so by gesture gaming, Sony Ericsson means moving your body in stead of pressing buttons. The company promises a variety of games to choose from, whether you want to keep fit and stay in shape or just want to beat your best score at tennis or boxing. That said, the phone will also include A/B buttons for traditional gaming control.

Just like the Satio, the Aino and Yari are promised to be released in early Q4 2009. Additionally, Sony Ericsson users in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany and the UK will get access to full movie downloads when the Sony Ericsson W995 makes its debut in June. The movie downloads will also be a part of the Satio and Aino.

That said, users will have to download movies to a computer, and then Sony Ericsson's Media Go software will transfer the videos to the phone. The movies can be watched for up to 90 days, and users can choose from a selection of around 15 movies at any one time. Approximately four additional titles will be added to the catalogue each month to replace outgoing content. A total of up to 60 movies can be downloaded during a twelve month period.

This service will be a part of the Satio, Aino and W995 out-of-box, so users don't have to pay extra fees here. Of course, that means the movies will only work on your given phone. It seems like a pretty good deal, if you ask us.
