If you check out our list of the hottest phones coming in May, there is no Palm smartphone. Why? Because it wasn't likely that it would actually be released in May at the time of posting. If you ask us, the exact release date will be officially announced several weeks in advance. Major releases tend to enter a pre-order stage before hitting store shelves, with the most recent of those being the T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009.
According to PreThinking, a Sprint Customer Service specialist seems to recently have backed up that fact. There are currently also speculations around the Web as to June 7 being the exact release date.
Many point out that it would then coincide with a possible announcement of new iPhone hardware, which is believed to get Palm and Sprint in trouble. To be honest, most studies have found that people make buying decisions when their contract is soon up, and not when new phones are released. In other words, release dates in relation to each other have very little impact on actual sales volumes in the long run. Additionally, it's worth remembering that the iPod touch is also a key to the portable Mac OS X success, so the iPhone isn't a must-have for everyone out there.
All that said, if you're awaiting an exact release date as well as price information for the new Palm smartphone, hang in there for a little while longer, and Palm or Sprint (or likely both) will soon give you every little detail, and a pre-order page.
