he rumors have been around for a while now, but here's the first official announcement: The Samsung i7500 is the first Google Android smartphone manufactured by one of the leading mobile phone manufacturers. That's not really a surprise though, as Samsung has been offering phones based on most platforms out there in the recent years.
The Samsung i7500 (specs) features a 3.2-inch AMOLED full touchscreen, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 5.76Mbps HSUPA, and Wi-Fi connectivity, giving users access to Google Mobile services and a desktop-like browsing experience. Along with supporting a 5-megapixel camera with auto focus and Power LED, the Samsung i7500 supports a range of multimedia codec formats (Video: MPEG4, H.263, H.264 and WMV. Audio: MP3, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+, WMA and Real Audio).
The Samsung i7500 Android smartphone will also ship with a 1500 mAh battery, an internal memory of 8GB and a microSD memory slot supporting up to 32GB cards. Furthermore, the phone supports Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0, and comes with a microUSB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Samsung i7500 offers users access to the full suite of Google services, including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Calendar, and Google Talk. The integrated GPS receiver enables the use of Google Maps features, such as My Location, Google Latitude, Street View, local search and route description.
The Samsung i7500 will be available in major European countries from June 2009. It supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz voice networks, as well as 900/1700/2100 MHz data networks. The 1700 MHz frequency will let T-Mobile USA users buy this phone unlocked and use it on T-Mobile's new 3G network. There's no word about whether T-Mobile USA will pick up and subsidize the Samsung i7500 Android smartphone.
