Fujifilm is blazing the lower-end market with style, color and waterproof capability. Will the Fujifilm FinePix J250, FinePix J20, FinePix Z30 and FinePix Z33WP offer enhanced performance, or is this just a collective facelift?
Today Fujifilm kicked down the saloon doors with the introduction of two new budget-friendly J-series compacts and two colorful characters that belong to the company's ultra portable and stylish Z-series, one of which is an underwater model. All four models reside within the sub-$200 category and ooze with hefty dosages of style, so if you're looking to save a buck and look hot while doing it, Fujifilm's new ultra-compact models might be right up your alley.
Fujifilm FinePix J250 and J20
The new Fujifilm FinePix J250 (specs) and Fujifilm FinePix J20 (specs) surface at a time when so many manufacturers are sticking 1/2.3" sensors in iPhone-thin camera bodies, so style and performance are the current deciding factors for most consumers. The FinePix J250 and J20 certainly showcase the looks with stealthy black, brushed metal facades and symmetrically rounded corners. The design of both cameras is minimalist and it mimics J-series models of the past, so we're looking for revamped innards here.
There's not much in the way of change for both new J-series models. We're talking 10-megapixel 1/2.3" CCDs, run-of-the-mill Scene modes and rechargeable Lithuim Ion batteries. Highlights on the FinePix J250 consist of a 5x optical 28mm wide-angle zoom, 3-inch LCD and Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization.
The Fujifilm FinePix J20 focuses more on its figure than it does advanced features. With a 2.7-inch LCD, 3x optical zoom lens and a thickness of just over a half an inch, the FinePix J20 is set to grapple with many no-frills, super-slim portable compacts out there. Both the FinePix J250 and FinePix J20 will feature Auto Scene Recognition, which automatically chooses the Scene mode best suited for the shooting environment. The Fujifilm FinePix J20 is set to ship this month while the Fujifilm FinePix J250 is slated for a March release, retailing for $130 and $200, respectively.
FujiFilm FinePix Z33WP
The new Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP (specs) may appear to be a wacky Play-Doh Art class experiment, thanks to its undulous body and Kindergarten-inspired color offerings. However, the Fujifilm FinePix Z33 is by far the most interesting new budget model we've seen from this company today. And that all has to do with the fact that the Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP is waterproof. How waterproof you say? The FinePix Z33WP can withstand a submergence of 10 feet, though most waterproof cameras in this class are up to 33 feet.
Also, there's no mention of shock-proof or dust-proof capabilities, so what we have here is quite an outdated waterproof fashion cam that is equipped with a standard 1/2.3" 10-megapixel CCD, 3x optical zoom and 2.7-inch LCD screen. Oh, and we can't forget about the seemingly universal Auto Scene Recognition, which is making a splash on all new Fujifilm cameras announced today. We'll put the Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP through our ring of torture when we get our hands on one, so stay tuned. The Fujifilm FinePix Z33WP is set to ship in late March for $200.
Fujifilm FinePix Z30
There's no denying the fact that the Fujifilm FinePix Z30 (specs) is an intriguing little bugger that offers a 1/2.3" 10-megapixel sensor, 2.7" LCD, 3x optical zoom and Auto Scene Recognition. We can't forget about FujiFilm's ludicrous "Face it, Blog it and Roll it" mantra, encouraging tech-savvy shooters and fashion freaks to perpetuate the madness that runs rampant within online social networks via instant uploads of images and video clips. The Fujifilm Finepix Z30 will ship in March for $180.
