We've recently seen eco-friendly phones like the Motorola Renew and Nokia 5630 being announced, but the new Samsung Blue Earth takes it all to a new level. On the back of the Samsung Blue Earth you'll find a solar panel, which acts as a charger for the all-touch phone. The phone also comes with a 5 star energy-efficient charger.
Like the Motorola Renew, the Samsung Blue Earth is made from recycled plastic that has been extracted from water bottles, helping to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions in the manufacturing process. The phone, including charger, is free from harmful substances such as Brominated Flame Retardants, Beryllium and Phthalate.
The Samsung Blue Earth sports a user interface designed to draw attention to preserving the environment, allowing users to easily set screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth to an "Eco mode". Through the "Eco Walk" function, users can also count their steps with a built-in pedometer, calculating how much CO2 emissions have been reduced by walking as opposed to driving. The function then lets users calculate how many trees that have been saved.
There's no word on pricing or availability yet, but the Samsung Blue Earth will be showcased at Mobile World Congress 2009 next week.
