If you've ever dreamt of being stalked, you should consider signing up as an iPhone tester. Of course, that's about as hard as getting a movie role, but still, if what Macrumors reports is true, it's the geekiest way of revealing an upcoming device ever.
PinchMedia, which provides iPhone developers with ad serving and analytic tracking software to embed within iPhone applications, claims to have first "spotted" an iPhone 2,1 device in early October 2008. A few dozen distinct iPhone 2,1 devices are claimed to have been detected since then.
So what should we expect from the iPhone 2,1 device? Honestly we don't expect a lot from Apple this year, though we hope to see improvements across the board. It's no secret that the iPhone 3G benefits greatly from performing extremely well in some areas, while others need significant improvement.
It's only 25 months since the original iPhone was announced, and 7 months since the iPhone 3G was released, but it would have been great to see the iPhone 2,1 being rolled out later this year with improvements in calling functionality as well as in areas such as messaging and camera performance.
