T-Mobile's Samsung Behold could be getting some serious competition soon, as HTC leaks photos of the T-Mobile G2 all-touch smartphone.
T-Mobile's smartphone lineup will soon include the thinnest BlackBerry smartphone to date, the Curve 8900, but now it seems like a new ultra-slim Android phone is in the pipeline too. Judged by the leaked photos at Gizmodo, T-Mobile customers may soon get a true multimedia all-touch smartphone with a contract. It's still just a rumor, but this could be the T-Mobile G2.
The Windows Mobile powered HTC Touch HD, Touch 3G and Touch Viva that were released in Europe last year, are currently among the most stylish HTC phones to date. The HTC Touch HD is even 0.01 inch thinner than the iPhone 3G, which of course is not a coincidence. HTC has promised to release similar models in the U.S. in 2009, and we expect to see carriers picking them up this summer. We wouldn't be surprised to see them powered by Windows Mobile 6.5 either, making these phones a key for HTC in the U.S. this year.
That said, we're sure a T-Mobile G2 all-touch smartphone powered by Android would receive a warm welcome among T-Mobile's customers too. When we reviewed the Samsung Behold all-touch phone last year, we found it to be a decent phone, though its multimedia options were scarce. Clearly, the T-Mobile G2 would have the potential of solving that issue. But again, a U.S. version of the HTC Touch HD powered by Windows Mobile 6.5 still sounds like a more intriguing HTC smartphone as we speak.
