Hallelujah! Sanyo was stricken with a high-definition epiphany, and that epiphany was to bring progressive full-HD to the masses. Let the holy light shine down on the new Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 and Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1, both capable of 1920 x 1080 60fps progressive high-definition video recording. JVC could only achieve this feat via playback with their GZ-HD6, but that was only through an HDMI connection. Sanyo's Xacti VPC-FH1, which fronts a moniker that's strikingly similar to Canon's Vixia HF11, is constructed horizontally, which is a first for Sanyo.
The Sanyo VPC-HD2000 is of course a pistol grip model, so as not to shun the avid John Wayne/John Carpenter hybrid shooters out there. It comes in a smashingly swanky Champagne color, in addition to black, while the Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1 looks to be a gunmetal grey and black concoction. We're also talking about a new high-speed image processing engine that enables progressive shooting and 8GB of built-in memory on the Xacti VPC-FH1 - and all new Xacti models use SD/SDHC cards. High-speed; you know what that means. The Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 and Xacti VPC-FH1 can playback video at 240fps and 600fps, giving Casio a run for its money. Both camcorders will be available in March 2009, and should sell for $600 and $500, respectively.
Sanyo is penning their new HD lineup as "Xacti Dual Cameras" based on their ability to capture video and still images. But wait, isn't that pretty much a standard within the consumer camcorder world? Is that anywhere near the profundity of the 1080P claim? No way, no how. Just more marketing jargon to toss on the plate. Until you consider that Sanyo's new base HD model, the 720P Xacti VPC-CG10, flaunts the ability to capture 10-megapixel still images, just like Panasonic's recently announced HDC-HS300. The new Sanyo Xacti VPC-CG10 line comes in a hot fuschia and Royal blue, in addition to black, and hypes ultra-portability as well as a 3" LCD. The vertical VPC-CG10 will sell for $200, while the horizontal sibling, the Sanyo Xacti VPC-TH1, will sell for $300. Both will be released in March 2009.
If you're more of the rugged type who wants to be able to submerge your digital imaging equipment and beat on it a tad, Sanyo also blasts off another "World's First" claim. This time the "World's First Waterproof HD Camcorder". We're talking about the new 720P Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA9 and VPC-WH1 waterproof camcorders, which were designed for the perils of the outdoors. The Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA9 is submersible up to 1.5 meters while the Xacti VPC-WH1 can reach 3 meters. We're dealing with two different model designs again, for the Xacti VPC-CA9 rocks Sanyo's tried and true pistol grip chassis while the Xacti VPC-WH1 gets a horizontal construction. The Xacti VPC-CA9 comes in a sage green, ruby red or black while the VPC-WH1 is saddled with a more unappealing white or mustard yellow. On the bright side, the Sanyo VPC-WH1 has a massive 30x optical zoom, which is monumental for an HD camcorder, especially of this stature. We can't wait to take this bad boy into our dunking tank. The vertical VPC-CA9 ($350) and horizontal VPC-WH1 ($400) will be shipping in March 2009.
