Slim and Slimmer
At the top of Casio's pocket high-speed fleet sit the Casio Exilim EX-FC100 and Exilim EX-FS10, two distinctly diminutive 9-megapixel cameras with the ability to shoot up to 30fps in burst mode, a speed faster than a typical SLR. The Casio Exilim EX-FC100 and Exilim EX-FS10 were stealthy little buggers at CES, rattling off image after image without making a sound in our hands. Both cameras also inherited high-speed video recording from their bigger brothers, the Casio Exilim EX-F1 and Exilim EX-FH20, with the ability to shoot up to 1,000fps slow motion video. But wait, there's more!
The Casio Exilim EX-FC100 and Exilim EX-FS10 are equipped with 21 Best Shot (BS) modes, including Multi-Motion Image and High-Speed Best Selection. There's also a Pre-Record function, YouTube Capture mode and Lag Correction, which comes to the aid of those who are slow to hit the shutter button. Both cameras also have a Slow Motion View mode, which displays action on the LCD in slow motion so shooters can pick the exact frame they want. Toss in 720P HD video recording, Face Detection and High-Speed Night Scene mode and Casio is packing a ton of features in these pint-sized models.
There are differences between the Casio Exilim EX-FC100 and Exilim EXFS10, primarily external. While the Exilim EX-FS10 is the slimmest of the two, giving a credit card a run for its money, it has a smaller 2.5" LCD, 3x optical zoom, shorter aperture range and lacks Image Stabilization. The Casio Exilim EX-FC100 has a 2.7" LCD, 5x optical zoom and contains CMOS-shift Image Stabilization. Despite their differences, both cameras are exceedingly compact, and definitely worth checking out.
Slowpokes
Casio also introduced a few cameras devoid of high-speed technology, though we able to find a few tricks up there lens barrels. The 12-megapixel Casio Exilim EX-Z400 and Exilim EX-S12 may appear to be basic, run-of-the-mill compacts from the outside, but they both possess Casio's new Dynamic Photo mode. Dynamic Photo captures images in a burst mode and isolates the subject so that the subject can be layered atop a different still image. So, if you want to be flying through space or hanging out at the Playboy mansion, Dynamic photo will allow that to happen. Although it would be more fun to use Photoshop, Dynamic Photo is geared toward those who have never even touched the program.
BS is brimming from both of these cameras, and we mean Best Shot modes. The Casio Exilim EX-Z400 has 39 Best Shot modes, while the Exilim EX-S12 is stocked with 41, including Multi-Motion Image, YouTube Capture mode and Pre-Record. Both cameras can shoot 720P HD video, have Face Detection and Handheld Night Scene. Differences between both cameras come down mostly to aesthetics, as the Casio Exilim EX-S12 is more of a looker with its bright color spectrum and chrome trim. The Casio Exilim EX-Z400 has a nice big 3" LCD and 4x optical zoom, compared to the Casio Exilim EX-S12's 2.7" LCD and 3x optical zoom. We're gung-ho about testing the new Dynamic Photo feature, and our imaginations are already beginning to run wild.
