Casio Exilim EX-FS10
The ultra compact, credit card-sized Casio Exilim EX-FS10 tantalized us with its smoking gunmetal color scheme and fluid architecture, but there was even more beauty to behold on the inside. The Casio Exilim EX-FS10 can capture 9-megapixel stills, and is capable of 30 shot-per-second burst shooting, which rattled off like a machine gun in our hands. Due to its super slim dimensions, the Casio Exilim EX-FS10 is strapped with a measly 3x optical zoom and 2.5"LCD screen. In the long run, that's not an issue for this camera's audience, who will consist primarily of style fiends and downsized gadget freaks. Casio's beloved BS (Best Shot) modes are in full effect, and high-speed video capture is available at up to 1,000 frames per second. This is one hot ultra-compact with a killer toolbelt. Price: $350. Release: March 2009.
Pentax Optio P70
The new wafer-thin Pentax Optio P70 entranced us with its attractive pearl white color and sexy body. The big surprise came when with powered on the Pentax Optio P70, only to be greeted by a protruding lens that extended over a full inch. Thanks to this design, the Pentax Optio P70 can afford to cram a 4x optical zoom lens inside. The Pentax Optio P70 captures still images up to 12-megapixels in size and is capable of 1280 x 720 high-definition video recording. The interface was a bit cramped for us, but what could we expect from a camera the size of an iPhone? The 2.7"LCD provided a crisp picture, but we just couldn't take our eyes off the lustrous clear-coat finish of the Pentax Optio P70. This is one foxy camera that promises advanced image quality. Price: $200. Release: February 2009.
Samsung TL100
Over at the Samsung booth, we caught the lens of a petit little number called the TL100. The Samsung TL100 is ultra-compact, just like the two cameras above, and captures 12-megapixel still images. For shooters that haven't a clue what they're doing with a camera in their hands, the Samsung TL100 has a Smart Auto mode, which automatically detects a particular Scene Mode based on the shooting environment. We were lukewarm about the Samsung TL100's 3x optical zoom, Digital Image Stabilization and 2.7" LCD, and were hard-pressed to discover any exclusive findings within this camera. Like most other cameras, the Samsung TL100 is equipped with Smile Shot, Face Detection and records standard-definition video. We're eager to test out the Samsung TL00's Blink Detection feature when we get our hands on a model in the near future. Release: Spring 2009.
