Logitech's newfound love for QVGA screens made us excited on the CES show floor. Check out a brand new touchscreen remote control and an intriguing all-around keyboard inside.
Logitech Harmony 1100
The Logitech Harmony 1100 remote control received an official "Best of Show" award already before CES 2009 had started. If you've invested heavily in a digital living room, this is a $500 gadget that'll take care of most of your needs from the couch. Of course, we can easily come up with a bunch of additional capabilities we might have wanted for $500, but simplicity coupled with customization options makes it a 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen remote worth considering.
Logitech promises that the whole family, your friends and even the babysitter can simply select what they want to do by choosing the appropriate on-screen icon - such as "Watch TV" - and the Harmony 1100 remote does the rest. The remote will turn on the TV, the DVD player, the A/V receiver and any other necessary devices in one touch. The Logitech Harmony 1100 also offers tactile guides, which are located around the touch screen and help position your fingers so that you can choose the right command.
All in all, this is a device that lets you know instantly how touchscreens can make everyone's life simpler. It'll be shipping both in the U.S. and Europe in February.
Logitech G19
The Logitech G19 is simply the most intriguing keyboard we've seen to date. Why, you ask? It's got a tiltable QVGA display providing in-game information for over sixty games, including World of Warcraft. The screen can also show VoIP communication data, clock, CPU load or other non-gaming specific items such as pictures or videos. Everything on a screen with a resolution that is acceptable.
Gamers will also get 12 fully programmable G-keys with three macros per key, giving a total of 36 time-saving commands per game. Performing multiple actions simultaneously is also made easier with the keyboard's multi-key input-functionality, which allows users to engage up to five keys at the same time.
Expect to pay $200 for the Logitech G19 when it's released in the U.S. and Europe in March.
