Sony introduced two colorful characters to the world of Internet video today. The Sony MHS-CM1 (gallery) and Sony MHS-PM1 (gallery) are highly compact and come in colors that would make Willy Wonka proud. We were crazy over the new "Eggplant" color, though Orange is quite enticing in its own right. Both the Sony MHS-CM1 and Sony MHS-PM1 record high-definition MPEG-4 video and can capture 5-megapixel still images.
The Sony MHS-CM1 has a slim, horizontal body that accommodates a 5x optical zoom lens and a 2.5" LCD screen. The Sony MHS-PM1 is a horse of a slightly different color, offering a super-compact, vertical design with nifty swivel lens for those hard-to-reach places. Both camcorders seemed tiny to us at the Sony press event, but the Sony MHS-PM1 is like holding a large cell phone, and that's impressive.
The Sony MHS-CM1 and Sony MHS-PM1 will ship with onboard Picture Motion Browser software for quick uploading on the fly. Both camcorders feature minimal internal flash memory capacities, but support the use of Memory Stick PRO Duo cards. The Sony MHS-CM1 is available today for $200, while the Sony MHS-PM1 will hit shelves in March for $170.
