  Nokia N73

Score: 95% When: August 2006 Worth: €550 What: Phones, Camera phones

Falling only marginally short of the image quality produced by its gargantuan N93 sibling, Nokia's N73 is a superb choice for shutterbugs with its excellent picture taking skills, a multitude of sharing options and compact size - but for some strange reason it skimps on memory. The basics have also been looked well after with first-rate calling and solid messaging capabilities under the hood alongside a raft of multimedia and productivity options; whether for pleasure or business, this one's a winner.   Nokia N80

Score: 90% When: May 2006 Worth: €675 What: Camera phones, 3G phones

Starting off on a high note, the Nokia N80 camera phone lines up a brilliant high-resolution screen and 3 Megapixel-pushing camera only to put its foot in its mouth seconds later through the absence of an autofocus, which hampers its ability to produce quality stills with predictive consistency. Although it also includes the most extensive line-up of printing, publishing and image management services of any camera phone to date, it still falls marginally short of its N90 predecessor - yet retains broader overall appeal due to its music, business and wireless photo streaming functionality, rendering it a superb 3G phone.   Nokia N93

Score: 87% When: August 2006 Worth: €550 What: Phones, Camera phones

Suffering from a few teething problems in the software department, the Nokia N93 is undoubtedly capable of shooting high-quality stills and truly outstanding video - as well it should, being built like a brick house. First-rate calling and messaging capabilities are also on the slate along with a boatload of additional features, but unless you're willing to sacrifice portability for the ultimate in imaging there are better balanced options to be had.   Nokia N91

Score: 85% When: May 2006 Worth: €675 What: Phones, Music phones

Not much holds the N91 back from scoring full marks in the music department; the lack of bundled quality headphones and stereo Bluetooth audio is about it. Otherwise excellent audio quality, an intuitive interface, comfortable controls and superb music transfer capabilities including Windows Media Connect support are all favoured traits, as is the massive 4 GB of storage - although we're a bit miffed by the rotund form factor. Voice and messaging capabilities are first-rate with the exception of a slightly cramped keypad, while the 2 Megapixel camera and browser are unlikely to impress. As a result of its varied feature set and hard drive reliance, battery life is expectedly average, but the N91 still outperforms the vast majority of music phones at the time of writing. More...

  Nokia N90

Score: 85% When: August 2005 Worth: €675 What: Camera phones, Business phones

As the first camera phone to apply proper optics along with a mix of a quality 2 Megapixel sensor, a brilliant high-resolution screen and a good selection of image management software, it’s no wonder Nokia’s N90 is best-in-class. Granted, it’s also an unwieldy beast, but this allows for a more flexible approach to snapping pictures and recording video due to its ability to shape-shift for shooting from the hip. Its external display isn’t of much use, however, and we certainly yearn for better synchronization to back up its decent amount of storage. More...

  Nokia 5500 Sport

Score: 85% When: August 2006 Worth: €350 What: Phones, Rugged phones

It's the most advanced outdoors handset we've seen to date, but Nokia's 5500 Sport still favours ruggedness over features which is evident from its mid-range set of capabilities. Its call handling is excellent, while messaging performance isn't ideal due to issues with the keypad and a cramped screen; still, the phone makes a good overall impression but is likely to appeal mostly to those in real need of a phone that can take a beating or excercisers interested in its handy Sports application set.   Nokia N72

Score: 79% When: June 2006 Worth: €400 What: Phones, Nokia phones

For those not in need of 3G and that sultry stainless look of the N70, the N72 is well worth considering even though it doesn't belong to the the same league as Nokia's other N series phones. In fact, its specifications are more suitable of a mid-range phone, which means its imaging and music capabilities are quite appealing (including the stereo FM radio), while calling and messaging shine with their usual Nokia polish. Also, the browser does a decent job at reformatting full web pages and handles; this is a well-rounded package, although a bit of a clunker. More...

  Nokia 6233

Score: 83% When: June 2006 Worth: €325 What: Phones, 3G phones

Although displaying Nokia's usual excellence in the departments of voice calls and messaging, Nokia's 6233 has several shortcomings which hamper various aspects of its use as a 3G phone. Among these, the lack of video calling and a poor browser affect use of the phone itself, while the omission of a USB cable means laptop users will be unable to reach maximize 3G bandwidth. It does, however, have good Bluetooth performance for those who prefer the unwired approach, and several other appealing features such as outstanding VGA video recording, an FM radio for aural entertainment and a very decent screen. Favouring fashion over features, the Nokia 6080 offers good looks with a choice of silver or gold accents yet little to brag about in way of functionality. The handset's highlight is its stereo FM radio, while the Series 40 interface also provides access to a 0.3 Megapixel camera which harnesses the 4 MB of onboard memory for storage. Additional features include support for Java and MP3 ringtones, as well as EDGE for snappy data connectivity; push-to-talk; SyncML synchronization; and Infrared connectivity.

  Nokia 6151

When: September 2006 Worth: €240 What: Phones, Mid-range phones

Assuming the role as Nokia's first true mass-market handset with 3G, the 6151 sports a price tag which at the time of introduction rivals that of many non-3G handsets. Based on Nokia's Series 40 platform, the handset offers a mid-range mix of features which includes a 1.3 Megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity and a music player as well as a microSD card slot to extend the 30 MB of onboard memory. Other highlights include a stereo FM radio with Visual Radio support and push-to-talk (PTT).
