BenQ-Siemens EF81
Score: 85% When: May 2006 Worth: €450 What: Clamshell phones, Slim phones
A no-frills clamshell with an industrial look and sturdy feel to it, the BenQ-Siemens EF81 offers a comprehensive range of features which include a mediocre 2 Megapixel camera; a sub-par MP3 player; and slightly underperforming 3G connectivity with video calling and a limited browser. Its best attributes, meanwhile include the excellent screen, its spacious keypad and the quality design which feels near-unbreakable. As far as clamshell phones go, it comes recommended for those in need of a rounded feature set, and it's also a decent slim phone for the same reason - as well as its anorectic 16 mm thickness. BenQ-Siemens SXG75
Score: 65% When: March 2006 Worth: €375 What: GPS phones, BenQ-Siemens phones
The main allure of the BenQ-Siemens SXG75 is its merging of phone and GPS functionality into one comparably compact device - a feat which it pulls off with reasonable success. Unfortunately, either aspect is revealed as mediocre when isolated from the other, and as such only users with an equal interest in both will find themselves content with the handset. Particularly worthy of note is the good battery life and audio quality, while quality-minded buyers will frown upon both the sub-par 2 Megapixel camera and the relative heft of the device. More...

BenQ-Siemens S68
Score: 50% When: February 2006 Worth: €130 What: Fashion phones, Slim phones
Light on features, high on fashion; although bereft of advanced functionality, the unarguably attractive BenQ-Siemens S68 candybar features a bright and crisp medium-resolution display which hosts a pretty and usable interface above a highly comfortable keypad. Performance, be it for text input, audio quality or Bluetooth headset use proved impeccable, and we certainly favour the anti-slip rear which nicely offsets the brushed aluminum front. Gripes, meanwhile, include a limited browser which is further hampered by GPRS being the sole option for packet data; a nearly non-existent media player; and the mere 26 MB of onboard memory available to users. Still, despite its general lack of features and a camera in particular, the S68 comes warmly recommended for those looking simply to text and talk in style - complete with a talk time in the range of 3 hours and 8 days of standby.

BenQ-Siemens EF51
When: June 2006 What: Music phones, BenQ-Siemens phones
For a music phone, the EF51 fails to impress. Although audio quality proved good, the music management capabilities of the handset were distinctly sub-par as compared to other dedicated music phones, while controls were difficult to distinguish and poorly laid out. In fact, the EF51 gives off a rather cheap overall feel, which is further solidified by its cramped display and 1.3 Megapixel camera. Lastly, we can't say we cared much for the push-through solution chosen for the music flip which affixes to the similarly so-so keypad. More...

BenQ-Siemens SL91

Usually, features and fashion are mutually exclusive as far as phones are concerned; not so with the SL91 from BenQ-Siemens. BenQ-Siemens E81
When: September 2006 What: Phones, 3G phones
In order to keep its size compact, the E81 also keeps features to a minimum. Its more noteworthy ones include 3G connectivity with limited video calling due to the lack of a front mounted camera, while the 1.3 Megapixel edition in the rear snaps stills and video almost exclusively to memory cards; onboard memory is severely restricted. Also present: MP3s either as ringtones or pure entertainment as well as the ability to connect Bluetooth headsets. More...

BenQ-Siemens E71
When: September 2006 What: Phones, BenQ-Siemens phones
Sporting a rather unusual non-stick coating as its claim to fame, BenQ-Siemens' E71 is a fairly modest phone with a high resolution display and 1.3 Megapixel camera as its most noteworthy features. A MP3 player and support for MP3 ringtones are also included, as is Bluetooth for connecting laptops to the Internet and headsets; a stereo FM radio; and a memory card expansion slot for increasing the paltry amount of onboard memory.
